In 1917,Tianjin Soda Plant was established at the coast of Bohai Sea in Tanggu District,Tianjin City with the original name of "Yong Li Soda Plant" The founders are Mr. Fan Xudong, Chinese famous patriotic entrepreneur , and Dr. Hou Debang, world famous scientist and authority of soda industry. It is the first soda plant in Asia with Solvey Process and well known as the cradle of Chinese Soda Industry and the source of Chinese modern chemical industry.

In 1926,it made out the excellent quality "Red Triangle" brand soda ash , which was awarded Gold Medal respectively in the International Exhibition in Philadephia,U.S.A.in 1926 and in the Industrial and Commercial Exhibition in Belgium in 1930.

In 1937,Japanese invaded China and took over Tanggu. All the people of the plant moved southward to Old Gragon Bank ,Wu Tong Qiao ,Qian Wei County ,Si Chuan Province ,which was renamed as New Tanggu, and established Yong Li Si Chuan Plant, developed the chemical industry base in West-China

In 1941,with great concentration and numerous experiments ,Dr.Hou Debang invented Hou's Process (Combination Process.)

In 1949,Tanggu liberated. The plant got new life and the production had good development. In 1952,the plant became joint state-private corporation formally , which was the first one in China.

From 1970 to 1978,the government made investment on the first stage of Combination Process project,Water Source project,Waste Release project, Edible Soda Ash project and Self-provided high pressure heat power station project and finished them. In 1994, with the low interest rate loan from Asia Development Bank,the plant finished total four energy saving reform projects. i.e. the Second Stage of Waste Field project, Synthetic Ammonia project, Distillation and Absorb Ammonia project and Soda Ash Dense project. It reduced the production cost and improved economic benefit.

Tianjin Soda Plant now occupies 4.69 million square meters, the main products are Soda Ash, Ammonium Chloride, Compound Fertilizer, Refined Salt, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Metasilicate, Synthetic Ammonia, CO2 Food Grade, 74% Flake Calcium Chloride, Ar, Water Stability Agent and Snow Melting Agent etc, total 12 sorts 22 grades products, in which 6 kinds of products hold the titles of "High Quality Products" of Chemical Industry Ministry and Tianjin Municipality ,Soda Ash was awarded international gold medal for four times and national gold medal for three times continuously.

Since Reform and Open policy effected, Tianjin Soda Plant aimed at the international advanced level, adopted a lot of energy saving, high efficiency and large scale soda facility by combining self-development and technology importation ,widely used computer in management, some automatic control is at the advanced level in China.

Meanwhile, with the principle of "comprehensive management, protecting environment",Tianjin Soda Plant try its best in the reform and enlarge works to make sure improving production but not producing more pollution. It leads to all the waste release conform to the national standard.
